The hiking trail from the Niederhorn mountain station to Vorsass and down to Beatenberg is the most popular in the Niederhorn area. No wonder: it is not only beautiful, but also offers a wonderful view of the Oberland lakes and the mountains with Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. And if you are lucky you can also watch native wild animals.

from «Beatenbucht»

From the STI stop «Beatenbucht» of line 21, the funicular and group cable car takes you up to almost 2,000 meters above sea level - to one of the most beautiful viewpoints on Lake Thun, the Niederhorn. We recommend to start the hike with a 5-minute detour at the beginning. This leads from the mountain station past the mountain restaurant to the viewing platform, which offers a wonderful panoramic view of Lake Thun, the Alpine panorama and Justistal.

The hiking trail first leads down on stony ground. The uppermost part runs above the forest line. The first wooden benches already invite you to linger. And it's not just the view that attracts: With a little luck even wild animals like eagles, bearded vultures, foxes or chamois can be observed. A short time later, the first groups of trees appear. And then the path continues in a somewhat steep S-curve down to Alp Flösch. Shortly before a path leads eastwards into the direction of Häliloch - Oberburgfeld to Flöschseeli. This is only a 5-minute walk away in the middle of a moorland landscape of national importance.

After Alp Flösch, a flat section of the trail follows. In the lower part of the forest there are several shady benches with a beautiful view. In this wood there is also a barbecue place. Then the path leads to Alp Vorsass with its Bärgrestaurant, where your hunger will be taken care of.

From Vorsass the path zigzags down towards Bodenalp. There is also a barbecue place. Leaving the hamlet of Schmocken behind you, you finally reach the village of Beatenberg and head north to the valley station of the funicular railway.
